Bruins Trip, April 4th

Back by popular demand, Student Activities sponsored a trip to Boston to watch the Boston Bruins take on the Toronto Maple Leafs. Tickets sold out to the game in about ten minutes. At the time, the Bruins were in the thick of the playoff hunt. The match ended with a thrilling shootout victory for the Bruins by the final score of 2-1. The Bruins have been since eliminated from the playoff hunt but will be looking to return next season.

 

American Sniper, April 10th

On April 10th, Student Activities screened one of the most successful films of 2015, despite the year being only a fourth of the way through. The Oscar-nominated blockbuster American Sniper was screened in Kominsky Auditorium. Based on the book and true life story of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, American Sniper stars Bradley Cooper as Kyle, a sniper with over one hundred confirmed kills. The movie was extremely popular, earning nominations for Cooper, director Clint Eastwood and for Best Picture. Luke Grimes and Sienna Miller also star in this action packed thriller. American Sniper is rated R for war violence and language.

 

Husson Top Scholars Banquet, April 12th

On April 12th, students graduating with a grade point average (GPA) at or above 3.6 were invited to the Hilton Garden Inn for a special banquet recognizing their success. Over 100 students from all four schools within the Husson University campus, including the New England School of Communications, were honored.

 

Husson’s Got Talent, April 14th:

Earlier this month, both the preliminary and final rounds of this semester’s Husson’s Got Talent were held. Hosted by John Costello and presented by the Kappa Delta Phi fraternity, students had a chance to show everyone what they were made of. After two weeks of competition, Julia Steer retained her crown as champion from last semester. The next round of Husson’s Got Talent will take place in the fall.

 

Pete Davidson, April 23rd

SNL cast member Pete Davidson performed at the Gracie on April 23rd. Davidson is the youngest cast member on SNL and is the first member of the cast to be born in the 1990s. This is his first season with the show. He also was featured in the Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber.

 

Husson Athletic Events:

Baseball, April 25th-28th

The Husson Men’s Baseball team will be doing some traveling over the weekend as they close out their season. They will play four games at New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire. The games will be played at 1:00 and 3:30 on Saturday and then 12:00 and 2:30 on Sunday. The Eagles will then travel to Colby College for an afternoon game on Tuesday, April 28th. Game time is 4:00.  

 

Softball, April 25th-28th

The Husson Women’s Softball team will be staying at home over the coming weekend. But they will also play two doubleheaders. Up first on Saturday, the Eagles will face off against Lyndon State. Game times are at 1:00 and 3:00. On Sunday, the Eagles will be making up an earlier double header and play Johnson State. Game times are at 12:00 and 2:00. The final games of the regular season will come on Tuesday, April 28th when the Eagles travel to Colby College for a double header. Game times are at 3:30 and 5:30.

Portland Sea Dogs Trip, April 26th

Student Activities are sponsoring a trip to Portland for students to take in a Sea Dogs baseball game. The Portland Sea Dogs are the Double-A affiliate for the Boston Red Sox. It’s a chance for students to see young players who may be playing for the big league club within a year or two.

 

The Nite Show with Danny Cashman, April 29th

Maine’s own Danny Cashman will be filming the last episodes of this semester’s edition of The Nite Show at the Gracie on April 29th. The late night variety show airs on Saturdays at 11:30 on WABI-TV 5. Tickets are free to the public but must be reserved online. The show is produced by students in the video production department of NESCom. Audience members are asked to be at the Gracie by 5:45 P.M. Tapings start at 6:00 P.M.

 

Laser Tag, April 30th

As a stress reliever from finals, a laser tag course will be set up in the Newman Gymanisum on Thursday, April 30th. Bring your friends! Admission to laser tag will be free and will run from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

 

Class Night, May 8th

Husson students and staff will have special nights where awards will be given out to individual students based on academic and extracurricular achievement.  The Class Night for the New England School of Communications will be held on Friday, May 8th at the Gracie Theatre at 7:00 P.M. Graduation, May 10th

The commencement for Husson University seniors will be on May 10th, at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. There is no need for students to purchase tickets. The ceremony will begin at 2:00 P.M. Caps and gowns are now available at the Husson Bookstore. Parents are encouraged to book hotel accommodations soon as several colleges in the area will be holding commencements during that weekend.
