College is one of the biggest steps that any student has to go through. I have done it, and it is a life changing experience. High school students look to further their studies to get into the work field that they want. Now a lot of students think that college is all about writing papers, having no time to get work done, and going to class for many hours of the day. That may be the stereotypical college life, but it is really nothing like that. College is one of the best times in a person’s life and they should take advantage of every opportunity.
In order to succeed in college, a student must understand that they will have to set a certain amount of time aside in order to get homework done. Especially when it comes to mid-terms and finals time. Studying is very important and finding the time to do it is something that students eventually learn how to do when they get to school. You have more time than you think. So trying to figure out the best time to get work done is awesome so you have more time to do things that you like to do. It can be stressful at times, and you may have a lot of work that needs to be done in a few days. Learning good time management skills will help you in the long run and it does feel good knowing that you have all your work done, and have more time to hangout with friends or do whatever you want.
Now classes is something that I always hear coming from high school students wondering “are the classes hard?” Well there is no real answer to that question. Depending on your major, you find out what classes you need to take in order to graduate. If you are in a major that you love, then a lot of the classes you will probably find yourself engaged in and enjoying. At Husson the classes vary from fifty minute lectures, to three hour labs (depending on your major). Students have a lot of control when it comes to their schedule. They meet with their advisers and talk about what classes they want to take each semester. So each student has a lot of say in what classes they take.
Time management and choosing the right classes are two very important aspects of college. But the most important thing to remember in college is to have fun! Like I have said before, these are the best times of your life. You really do meet some of your lifelong friends in college. Getting out and meeting new people might sound scary at first, but everyone is in the same boat. Everyone is nervous when they first come to school. I know I was. But it is really easy to meet knew people that share the same common interests as you. There is also a lot of activities that go on around campus, so there is always something to do. The Student Activities department strives to have fun events and shows going on all the time for the students to take part in and enjoy.
So what I am trying to say is, make sure you focus on school first, because that is very important. But never forget to have fun. Make the best of these years. It will all be worth it in the end.
