Equipment Distribution Center at NESCom Prepares Students for Industry

By Dylan Kelley

Bangor, MANE- The Equipment Distribution Center, or EDC, is accelerating the way students learn hands-on at New England School of Communications. The EDC provides students with professional equipment to serve the needs of audio, video, journalism and live-production majors.

Sean Leach, Sophomore at NESCom, says that the advanced technology is a big part of why he came to NESCom.

“After my visit at the EDC and seeing all of the different equipment, it was the tipping point of my decision to come here. I’m getting a leg-up on how to use this type of gear, and the professionals that are the instructors help me learn even more. Not only do they know the ins and outs of the gear, they also are in the loop as far as changes or advancements in the technology themselves.”

The EDC was built in 2001 when the Wildey Communications Center was built, and the staff and school has ensured that only the newest equipment is supplied.

Husson Senior Nick Danforth, who works at the EDC, says that the gear is top-notch.

“Working in the EDC is really cool because I get access to industry-standard filming equipment. I’m talking about stuff that that you see being used for Star Wars movies, Mission Impossible, all the big names. And then we have the stuff for news, which is less impressive, but still extremely cool. Probably my favorite job I’ve ever had, and it makes me feel much more confident when I am put in a position where I need to use equipment.”

NESCom students can check out equipment almost any time of day or night, and they can use the equipment for 24 hours. For more information on the EDC or NESCom, visit their pages at Husson.edu.
