In Rockland, a former employee who had been with the company for twenty-five has admitted to stealing money from the city. Laurie Smith, the fifty-five-year-old from the Rockland area, pleaded guilty last week to theft. Instead of jail time, she received two hundred hours of community service and two years of probation. She worked for the Rockland finance department for over two decades. Last fall, according to authorities, Smith had been using the city credit card for personal things. She had spent more than five thousand dollars in two years. Before she was sentenced, she paid back all of the money spent.
