BANGOR – The Husson University men’s and women’s basketball teams are once again North Atlantic Conference Champions as of this past Saturday. The top-seeded Husson men’s team (20-6) beat the third-seeded Thomas College of Waterville at Newman Gymnasium. Raheem Anderson scored 33 points for the second day straight to lead the Eagles to this win.
The top-seeded Husson women’s team was lead by Chandler Guerrette, scoring 28 points, to a 58-55 win over third-seeded New England College later on Saturday evening. Husson Eagle Kenzie Worcester contributed eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals to the win and was named the tourney MVP. Teammates Darla Morales and Guerrette also made the all-tournament team.
This is the second year in a row that Coach Warren Caruso’s team has won the NAC Championship, which allows them to proceed to the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship. Their first game will be later this evening against the nation’s top-ranked team, Babson College (25-2) in Babson Park, Massachusetts.
As for the Husson women’s basketball team (22-7), they will be attending the NCAA Division III Tournament for the second year in a row, where they will be playing DeSales University (20-7) from Center Valley, Pennsylvania. Their game will be played at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts on Friday as well, about 20 miles from where the men’s team will be playing.
When asked about the game against New England College, Morales said she felt from the beginning they were going to come out on top. “I was very nervous, but I had so much excitement.” Morales transferred to Husson University from California in 2015 and played for the Eagles during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons during which she has scored a total of 517 points. “Winning the conference was honestly the best feeling ever, especially because it was my last time winning a conference title,” Morales said. “My last two years have been the best two years that I have experiences and I’m glad I chose Husson University to finish what I set out to accomplish.”
The women’s team will be playing at 5:00 this afternoon, and the men will play at 7:30 tonight.
