The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1:
Date: February 14th
On February 14th, Student Activities will be screening one of the most successful films of 2014. As one of the final events of Winter Week, the school will show a screening of the mega-popular Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. Based on the books by Suzanne Collins, the film picks up immediately following the second film, with heroine Katniss Everdeen and her fight against an oppressive government. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Donald Sutherland star in this action packed thriller. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is rated PG-13.
Accepted Student Day:
Date: February 16th
On February 16, high school seniors and transfer students from across the state and further will be coming to the first of the Accepted Student Days. Students will be able to tour the campus, attend one of the classes and ask questions and get a feel for life as a Husson student.
Senator Angus King Speech:
Date: February 19th
US Senator Angus King (I-ME) will be coming to the Gracie on February 19th. Senator King is currently in his first term as a senator for Maine. He previously served two terms as the state’s governor. Senator King will speak about the incoming Congress and the issues it will be dealing with including health care, the environment and education. Tickets are free but reservations must be made with Julie Green at (207) 941-7129. Doors open at 7 A.M.
Michael Jackson Experience:
Date: February 20th
On February 20th, the Michael Jackson Experience will be coming to the Gracie Theatre. Joby Rogers stars in this extravagant celebration of the King of Pop’s historic and legendary career. Rogers himself was selected by Jackson as an “Official Substitute” and has appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone. Tickets start at $25.
Career Fair:
Date: February 25th
On February 25th, Husson will be hosting a career fair. Businesses from across the state will be at the Dyke Center for Family Business for students to ask questions, get informed about possible jobs and internships and explore their respective fields. The fair will go from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
The Nite Show with Danny Cashman:
Date: February 25th
Maine’s own Danny Cashman will be filming the next few episodes of the Nite Show at the Gracie on February 25th. The late night variety show airs on Saturdays at 11:30 on WABI-TV 5. Tickets are free to the public but must be reserved online. The show is produced by students in the video production department of NESCom. Audience members are asked to be at the Gracie by 5:45 P.M. Tapings start at 6:00 P.M.
Husson Athletic Events:
Basketball Men:
Dates: February 13th-16th
The Husson Men’s Basketball team will be doing some traveling over the weekend. They will play Friday, February 13th at Lyndon State. The game begins at 5:30. The Eagles will then travel to Johnson State for an afternoon game. Game time is 1:00. Finally, the road trip ends on Monday when the Eagles travel down to Bowdoin to play a makeup game after a game in late January was cancelled due to inclement weather. Currently, the Eagles stand at 15 and 3 on the season.
Basketball Women:
Dates: February 13th-14th
The Husson Women’s Basketball team will also be doing some traveling over the Valentine’s Day weekend. The Eagles will be playing Lyndon State on February 13th. Their game begins at 7:30. On Saturday, the Eagles will play Johnson State at 3:00. The women’s team is currently 12 and 6 on the season.
Swimming Men’s and Women’s:
Dates: February 13th-15th
It’s now the end of the season for the Husson Eagles’ swimming and diving teams. Both the men and the women’s teams will be having their New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championship meets at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth next weekend. The championship will go on for three days. During the season, the women won one meet and the men performed well, despite a lack of wins.
Down the Road…
Mid-Terms:
Dates: March 6th
Midterms for the spring semester will begin in four weeks. Midterms mark the halfway point until the end of the school year. Midterms will be given the week ending on March 6th.
Spring Break:
Dates: March 9th-March 14th
Husson students and staff will have one week off during the second week of March. Students generally go back home to visit with families during the week. Classes will not be held from March 9th until March 14th.
Registration:
Dates: March 30th
For returning students, class registration is coming up. Students meet with their academic advisors to plan out the next semester of classes. The pre-registration meetings will be from March 23rd to March 27th. Registration is online and will begin on March 30th. Times will be posted at a later date.
