BANGOR – The parking lot traffic flow has changed in front of the Dyke Center for Family Business as it has been rerouted from two-way traffic to one-way traffic.
Associate Vice President for Auxiliary Services Thomas Warren says that the student government at Husson suggested the change.
“Student Government pointed out that limited visibility at the location where Kagan Drive passed through the CFB parking lot created an unsafe condition,” Warren said. “They also pointed out that the passage through the parking lot nearest to the CFB was too narrow for two way traffic, further exacerbating the ability to safely pass through that area.”
According to a notice sent out by the University, Husson claims that, “this change will create safer driving conditions for students, faculty, staff and visitors.”
The change, that was set into motion February 8th, is affecting students that live in the dorms. Husson freshman Zach Gosselin, who lives in Bell Hall which is the closest dorm to the traffic change, is approving of the rerouting. “I like it,” Gosselin said. “Everyone will know where to go, where they can walk and can drive. I think everyone will be safer because of this change.”
Warren agrees.
“To date the response has been very positive,” Warren said. “In fact, while installing the signage several of our students took the time to pull over and thank maintenance workers for making this change.”
Warren said that Auxiliary Services are pleased with the initiative the Student Government has taken to make the campus a safer place and that they look forward to continued work with the student government in the future.
