BANGOR, Maine – After the release of Deadpool in February of 2016, that opened a new door for profanity in Marvel films. It is important to understand that this is no ordinary superhero movie. Logan is based off of the comic series Old Man Logan, in which Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is a drunk grumpy old man, who is taking care of an even older Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart). The year is 2029, and there have been no recorded mutant births in 25 years. The X-Men are obsolete with only a few mutants left in existence, or so they thought.
The movie is filled with blood, gore, swearing, drinking, and the occasional nudity. You’re able to watch people get chopped in half and viciously shot. With all of that being said, this movie if phenomenal. The emotion Hugh Jackman put behind his character is hypnotising. He takes you on the tough journey that Logan has to endure.
Rumors have it this will be Jackman’s last appearance as the Wolverine, and he knocked this one out of the park. It is hard to watch him age, with his claws not as strong as they used to be, and his self healing power diminishing. Just as easily hard to watch Professor Xavier who suffers seizures so horrible that his telepathic powers rattle anyone who’s near him. Besides the surprisingly violent story line, this is an amazing story. A struggling Logan takes care of his long time advisor, and all the while meets the daughter he never knew he had. A road trip takes place, where a bond between the two start to bloom. Even the hard core Wolverine cannot deny the fatherly instincts to take care of his daughter.
From out running bad guys, shoplifting, and even shedding a few tears, this is movie is a must see. Wouldn’t necessarily say that is a family friendly movie. Take your family to see with caution. As the first R rated X-Men movie, it is rated that way for a good reason. But if you don’t mind a little bloody and cussing, this movie needs to be added to your must see list.
