BANGOR– For its annual Pops concert, the Bangor Symphony Orchestra is celebrating Valentine’s Day with Folk legend Noel Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary. This Saturday, Feb. 13, the singer-songwriter takes the stage at the Collins Center for the Arts with BSO Music Director and Conductor Lucas Richman for a program that will highlight hits from Stookey’s long career with a new twist: orchestral accompaniment.
The first half of the concert will feature the BSO playing romantic favorites from classical music and film, including Mendelssohn’s famous Wedding March and Leonard Bernstein’s Overture to “West Side Story.” When Stookey takes the stage, audiences will hear favorites such as “Leaving on a Jet Plane” and “Wedding Song” backed by the orchestra, as well as solo works including “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright” and “Love Rules!”
The BSO last collaborated with Stookey in 2012 when they recorded his “Cabin Fever Waltz,” written especially for the orchestra. That piece will also be performed Saturday night.
